The workshop/ training was inaugurated by Sri. K.B. Shankaran, Director
SIRD. Sri. S. Saheerudin, JDC and Faculty member SIRD welcomed the gathering
and Sri. K. Shoukathali, JDC in his introductory remarks, explained in detail
the purpose and back ground of the training programme.

Session 1: Where are we in IWMP an
analysis
In this session the participants introduced themselves and the various TSOs presented a self appraisal of their activities so far. CRD of Neeleswaram block, SUSTHIRA of Thrithala block, ARSHABHARATHAM of Kalpatta and Sulthan Bathery blocks, DEENDAYAL of Alathur block, GRAMEENA PTANA KENDRAM of Ithikkara block, CSES of Vypin and Champakkulam blocks, RAJIV GANDI YOUTH FOUNDATION of Wandoor block, FLAME of Pattambi block, IRTC of Thuneri block, LAND USE BOARD of Vamanapuram block and CSRD of Erattupetta block presented their progress.
Session 3: Institutional arrangements
(Sri. K. Shoukathali and Sri. S. Saheerudeen)
In this session the organisational
structure of IWMP in the country from NRAA to User groups and the Institutional
arrangements were discussed
Session 4: Preparation of DPR and
Annual Action Plan (Smt. M. Jayasree, Technical Expert, SLNA)
Session 5: Capacity Building Plan and
Livelihood Plan in IWMP (Sri. S. Saheerudeen)
In this session Sri. Saheerudeen,
faculty member, SIRD explained the capacity development component of IWMP and
the importance of preparing detailed training plans at various levels, need for
conducting a training need assessment and the livelihood plan in IWMP
Session 6: Fund management (Sri. K.
Shoukathali)
In this session, sri. K. Shoukathali,
AO, SLNA explained the fund flow in IWMP and the funds management at various
levels of scheme implementation.
The concluding session of the first day
of the training was group discussion by the participants addressing the
possibilities, Issues and Constraints in DPR preparation of IWMP. Four groups
were formed at random and the groups were asked to discuss organisational
structure, Institutional structure, role of PRIs and SHGs, ways and means for
enhancement of the quality of DPRs under preparation and selection of Entry
Point Activities. The results of the discussions were to be presented on the
second day. The groups engaged in active and fruitful discussion.

Session 8: Delineation of Micro
Watersheds based on GIS (Sri. Vinod, MAITHRI, Palakkad)
In this session Mr. Vinod of MAITHRI,
Palakkad explained the watershed delineation process in GIS platform,
illustrating examples prepared by MAITHRI for PPRs. The participants were
familiarised with various tools and softwares used. He suggested that the TSOs
should obtain the cadastral maps from local institutions, get them scanned within
a week, geo referenced and various layers should be super imposed using Google
Earth Pro. The layers, already prepared by MAITHRI, were handed over to the
TSOs.

Session 10: Time line and Planning of
future course of action (Sri. Shoukathali, Sri. Vinod)
In this session a detailed review of
activities by TSOs in the first phase of IWMP was undertaken by Sri.
Shoukathali, AO, SLNA. Subsequently a detailed time line for various activities
from April 1st to May 25th was prepared in discussion
with officials and TSOs. The time line if furnished as annexure I.

Session 11: Training evaluation and
validation
In this session Sri. Shoukathali, AO,
SLNA summed up the course/ workshop outcomes and Sri. Saheerudeen, faculty
member SIRD presented the training evaluation results. On the whole the
training was rated excellent by the participants. Sri. VP. Sadanandan, PIA
Tuneri and Sri. Jaizin Joseph, WCDC Idukki
spoke on behalf of the participants. Sri. Saheerudeen proposed vote of
thanks and certificates were distributed among the participants. The programme
came to close at 5 pm.
